EU: Energy now essential factor for malt and beer production
Energy has become the essential factor of malt and beer production, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their September report.
The all-important gas, also oil and electricity have become unbelievably expensive as a consequence of the Ukrainian war. Governments charge additional taxes in order to limit energy use.
The cost of malting has tripled since the beginning of the year. The lack of gas increases prices and reduces the production of fertilizer. Brewers are concerned about non-deliveries of CO2.
There is still a risk that the malt and brewing industries could be cut off their energy supplies. At least lockdowns are not in sight, the analysts point out.
